Knowing the key elements of the delivery bands feature allows for shop owners to set shipping costs that cohere perfectly with their specific needs. This means that you never lose money on any order and can rest easy knowing that every order is backed up by shipping rules that you have personally devised. Understanding delivery bands gives you peace of mind as a shop owner and gives your website a professional, organised feel, which in turn gives confidence to customers as they enter the checkout process.

If you are delivering sold items to customers in the UK from your website, a UK delivery band would have been set up for you. But what is a delivery band?
Delivery bands are used to calculate delivery costs from different countries or regions. Each delivery band relates to a different delivery area. The delivery address entered by the customer determines the delivery band used, and if a region matches with more than one delivery band, the band with the highest priority – the one that comes up first in the table – is applied.
To enter the UK delivery band, click the blue Configure button.
Firstly, make sure that the UK band that you are using is enabled. Otherwise, no delivery charge will be imposed.
After ensuring that the band is enabled, you will come across the area where you give the band a relevant name (the country it applies to) and a description (to give an important message of some kind).
The next section is where you choose the country/region that your delivery band applies to.
Hold down the CTRL button and click to select multiple countries at once, which could be necessary if you are a large online shop.
On this page, there are three different delivery rules that you can impose:
1. Threshold for free delivery
2. Fixed standard delivery fee
3. Weight-based delivery fee
These options are ranked in order of priority, meaning that Option One supersedes Option Two and Option Two supersedes Option Three.
If someone spends less than £200, however, free delivery will not be activated, meaning that Option Two - Fixed standard price postage - is applied instead.
The two work in conjunction with eachother: free postage for all purchases over £200, and a fixed delivery fee (£10) for any orders less than £200.
You can modify these two variables to suit your shop’s particular needs.
If you don’t want to set custom weight for every item – you may have thousands – then you can input a default weight that is applicable to all your products.
Weight-based delivery price bands will only apply if:
1. Threshold for free delivery has not been reached
2. Fixed standard delivery fee option has been turned off
If you sell more than one item, each item would attract a delivery cost. You have three options for how to combine these costs:
You can offer unique delivery alternatives for different delivery bands. Customers are offered these alternatives from a table presented at checkout.
For instance, you may want to offer a guaranteed next-day courier delivery service and insert a specific price for this delivery method.
You can offer up to two alternative delivery methods.
Replace: Select if you want the alternative delivery method price to be used instead of the delivery fee stipulated in the bands above.
Increment: Select if you want the alternative delivery method price to be added to the delivery fee stipulated in the bands above.
Having gone through those steps, you now know about every key aspect of the UK delivery band.
You can now make changes to the band as you please and, if needed, create a new delivery band for orders from outside the UK.
