If you are expanding your website, you may need to deliver items to different countries. This means that setting highly specific and personalised delivery costs is important for maintaining a professional look and ensuring that you do not lose money on orders. We will go through creating multiple international delivery bands and run through how they work in conjunction with each other.
blogs, delivery bands,Follow Step-by-Step
Open editor, click Basket, and select the Settings option
Once you enter the delivery bands area, click on the green Add new delivery band button underneath the UK delivery band.
In the first textbox that shows up, type in the name of the country that your delivery band applies to.
This example delivery band applies to orders from the US, so I need to click on the US/Canada option in the list of countries.
You most likely cannot offer free shipping for international orders, so make sure that Option 1 has been turned off.
Having switched off free delivery, you must now attach a fixed postage price to be applied to every order from the US/Canada.
Under Option 2, make sure that fixed standard price postage is turned on and type in the shipping cost that you want to set for US orders.
Once you're happy with the fixed postage price, scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit Save.
We now have the two delivery bands that suit the needs of my business, with the first band being for UK orders and the second band for orders from the US, Canada or Mexico.
This means that the basket will firstly search to see if the order country code matches the UK band. If there is no match, the US band will be checked next. If the order's country code matches with the US band, the fixed postage price we set in Step 7 will be applied to that order.
While most orders come from the UK or US, what would happen if I received an order from Italy or Paraguay or Ghana?
As things stand, an order from outside the UK or US would not match with either delivery band, which means that no delivery charge would be applied to orders from outside the UK or US.
If an order’s country code does not match the UK delivery band, it will then be checked to see if it matches the US delivery band, and if the country code does not match that band either, the Rest of the World one will be selected.
The order in which I’ve created the delivery bands means that the UK band is always checked first, then the US, and then, finally, the Rest of the World.
If I had created my Rest of the World delivery band BEFORE I created the US one, the US band will never be matched because it comes AFTER the ‘Rest of the World’ delivery band, which matches with all countries outside the UK.
Always remember that the higher up the table, the higher the priority.
