Once you have written your content the next step is using the DotGO software to make your webpages look great.
If you haven't yet seen our 'Getting Started' tutorial which takes you through the process of creating or editing your first webpage we recommend that you start there first.
Easily, the fastest way to create a website that looks great, is to use our readymade page layouts. First create a new webpage (or remove all the content from an existing webpage). When you try and edit that page, our systems will detect an empty page and offer you the chance to choose a ready-made page layout.
Adapting the readymade content around your own content is simple and fast, but there are a few tricks-of-the-trade that will make the process a lot faster and prevent you falling into some familiar traps.
Please take time to watch these short videos that show you how adapt readymade content and avoid common mistakes.
Its unlikely that readymade page layouts will be 100% perfect for you. However, the intention is to give you something which is pretty close and that you can configure yourself. We want to take the repetitive design guess-work out of making your pages look great. We'll give you something that is close to your ideal and the tools to make it perfect.
We fully expect that you will want to change the layouts a little bit. You may want a different column structure, additional rows or perhaps remove or add entire blocks of content. All of this can be done using the green buttons (see below).
The content we provide has dummy grey boxes as image placeholders and non-sense Latin text. You should replace this with your own words and pictures.
We go into much more detail on day 4 on how to add your own images.
Just copy the text you have already created and paste it over the dummy text that we provide. Your site will come to life almost immediately.
If you have your text and images ready, creating a complete website will take just a few minutes. Of course the more you customise the longer it will take.
A term that you may never have of heard of, but pre-occupies every website designer is 'responsive design'. Responsive design is the 'art' of creating a website for one platform (such a large desktop screen) but making sure that it magically adapts for any other device such as a tablet or the small screen of a mobile phone.
What if you want the slick structure and styling combined with the responsive design but prefer to design your layouts yourself?
You can build your content layouts by using the green buttons on the website editor.
These magicl three green buttons allow you to choose a layout and style for each section of your webpage. You can style and change the colour of your content sections, add readymade content which you can overwrite, or just choose simple columns
The most powerful layout features of the DotGO website builder are the three green buttons inside the website editor.
Since going live with the site, I have had a lot more enquiries from interested parents.
My web site shot up the search engine so quickly and was on the first page of Google after just three weeks.
If someone had told me that I would be able to build my own websites and manage it day to day, I would have laughed at them. But I did and still do !
The amount of books I sell every month easily pays for the site. I've had orders from the USA, Australia, Fiji, Malaysia and Skegness
