With your trial started, it is tempting to dive in and start building your website. But our advice is STOP and think. Plan your site. Decide the pages you want and write all your text before you go near our software.
If you have a small website, say 5 webpages or so, there isn't much planning you need to do. However, you should still write your content and source your images before you start.
Avoid the temptation to dive into our software and write the content 'on the hoof'. This will end up taking a lot longer and often ends up in re-work.
Next, you need to source a lot of images ... a lot more than you think!
Avoid poor quality camera phone images. A great website is full of great images and you can easily expect to use 6-10 images per page. Consider buying images from a stock image website. Read our image sourcing guide and make your website look amazing. We'll discuss images in a lot more detail on Day 4.
We would suggest at least half a page of A4 per page as a bare minimum, but longer pages of 1 or 2 pages of A4 of text will always do better.
There are no hard and fast rules. The more information you add the more the search engines will love you and regard your site as authoritative and worthy of a high ranking. The search engines use sophisticated artificial intelligence to determine the quality of your content and the value it offers to searching customers. If you work hard on creating great information that your customers will want to read, then Google will reward you with great placement – (more about Google and getting ranked on Search engines later).
If you structure your pages around different things you want to say, then you can then emphasise each section with graphical tools and images, making your website content flow. It will also help your readers to find what they are looking for and for Google to index your content too.
Since going live with the site, I have had a lot more enquiries from interested parents.
My web site shot up the search engine so quickly and was on the first page of Google after just three weeks.
If someone had told me that I would be able to build my own websites and manage it day to day, I would have laughed at them. But I did and still do !
The amount of books I sell every month easily pays for the site. I've had orders from the USA, Australia, Fiji, Malaysia and Skegness
