Knowing how to take full advantage of the automated rules feature is absolutely fundamental for any ecommerce website owner with a high number of items. Manually creating groups is not enough for many website owners. This article shows you how to set intelligent criteria that automatically builds specific groups for you - groupings that appeal to your customers and make sense in the context of your items and wider website. Having a command of this aspect means that you look much more professional.

Open the editor, click on Basket, and select the Groups option.
Give your group a relevant name and then be sure to use the description to clearly signpost the key features of this group that you are creating using automated rules.
Click the yellow Advanced settings button and you will see that the Automated rules section pops up.
A simple automated rules group would entail the application of a "Best Sellers" tag to several items ahead of creating a group whose automated rules stipulated that only items with that "Best Sellers" tag can be included.
However, automated rules can be used to create a much more specific group, if needed. For example, what if I wanted to create a group of items that only contained:
The first thing I must do is ensure that we have ALL CONDITIONS switched on as opposed to ANY CONDITIONS.
This means that, for items to enter this group, they must satisfy ALL – not just ONE – of the conditions set in the automated rules section.
Firstly, make sure that this group only contains DRESSES – you may have a big fashion shop with blouses, shoes, etc. But this group is only concerned with dresses, which is where the item type metric comes in.
I should now think about the price. Automated rules allow you to set a specific minimum and maximum price, enabling users to create a group whereby all dresses in this group must be between £40 and £100.
I have now successfully selected the minimum price.
For setting the maximum price of items in this group, follow a similar pattern.
And with that, I have stipulated that all items in this group must be (1) Dresses and (2) between £40 and £100.
Now I need to include a rule stating that items in this group must also have the "Sale" tag attached to them.
In the Where the dropdown, select Tag
In the Condition dropdown, select IS
In the Value dropdown, type in your tag until it comes up*
*If you have many tags, be sure to use this search bar as it will save you time searching for a specific tag.
Lastly, make sure that every item in this group has a bulk discount of 30% attached to it.
You could use the Bulk purchase discount in many ways. You could change the Condition dropdown to is greater than and the value to 0% to create a group of all items with discount attached to them.
We have now created a really enticing group of bargain luxury dresses that customers will be genuinely very tempted by. All dresses:
You could then style this group, give it an attractive thumbnail, and then plug it into your home page as a way of really drawing customers in.
