Meta tags exist to inform web crawlers about your web page and are used for search engine optimization purposes or (SEO). They help web crawlers to index your pages more easily. Correct use of meta tags can help to improve the visibility of your webpage to certain search engines, and may increase the likelihood of your page coming up in the search results lists when people search under keywords, which are related to your content. Your Reason8 Website Builder creates all your tags automatically from the content you place on your pages but should you wish to amend and manipulate them yourself, here are a few guidelines.
To alter your meta-tags, you'll need to click step 3 - Webpages and Click the Google Icon next to each page. There are three types of Tag. 1) Title Tag, probably the most important. The META DESCRIPTION tag and the META KEYWORDS tag.
Whatever text you place in the title tag will appear in the reverse bar of someone's browser (the very top bar – above the address bar) when they view the web page. For instance, within the title tag of this web page that you are reading now is this text: Meta-tags Build a Website with Website Builder. The title tag is also used to describe your page when someone adds it to their "Favourites" or "Bookmarks" lists.
Without question the title tag of your page is the single most important factor to consider when optimizing your web page for the search engines. This is because most engines & directories place a high level of importance on keywords that are found in your title tag. The title tag is also what the search engines usually use for the title of your listing in the search results. Your DotGO system automatically creates your title tag from the best and most relevant keywords it can find on your page content.
If you do wish to change your Title Tag, we recommend that it be no more than 10 words long or to be more precise - between 50-80 characters long - including spaces! The length that the different search engines accept varies, but as long as you keep within this limit you should be ok.
Make sure you include 1 or 2 of your most important key phrases in the title tag, BUT be careful not to just list keywords. If you just list keywords you risk being viewed as a spamming the engines which can ultimately lead to you being blacklisted by the search engines. Your title tag should include your keyword phrases while remaining as close to a readable sentence as possible to avoid any problems.
Make your title enticing! Don't forget that even if you get that top listing in the search engines your listing still needs to say something that makes the surfer want to click through and visit your site.
Since the length of your title tag could be a little long for some engines we suggest placing the keywords at the beginning of the tag when possible so that you do not risk having them cut off.
Your Keywords Meta not exceed 1024 characters including spaces. You should only use those keyword phrases that you also used in the copy of your page, title tag, meta description, and other tags. Any keywords phrases that you use that do not appear in your other tags or page copy won’t help your listings for that phrase.
Plurals and Miss-Spellings - Include the plural versions of your top keywords to make sure they show up in both searches. If you know of a common misspelling of a popular keyword, you should enter it in your keywords meta tag.
Repeats - You need to include your most important phrases, but be careful not to repeat one word many times. It is okay to repeat a main keyword a couple of times in order to make sure you include all your main phrases, but be careful not to repeat any one word excessively – try to avoid repeating one word more than 5 times.
If the catchment area for your business is a specific geographic location, be sure to include the actual location in your keywords.
Your Description Meta tag must not exceed 250 characters including spaces. Within your description tag, try to describe the content of your page accurately and at the same time, aim to entice visitors to click on your listing. Include 3-4 of your most important keyword phrases. Especially those keywords used in your title tag and page copy. Try to include your most important keywords at the beginning of your description.
