Adding Colour to your Website!

When you have such an immense spectrum of colours to choose from, how on earth do you go about choosing the right colours for your website? Your Reason8 website builder makes it so simple for you to choose and set your colours within your pages, on your text and even built into your header and background design. The first thing you need to do though is decide on a colour scheme, which you should stick to throughout your site.

Colour Your Website

The first point of reference when looking at colour schemes, are of course any existing colour schemes, which you already use for your business. You may use a certain range of colours in your logo, in any existing literature, on your business card, headed paper or any leaflets you may have had printed and circulated. If you’ve used and promoted your business using an existing colour scheme then you should stick to it. Colours are the most commonly recognised part of any identity or corporate image and continued use of these colours in other aspects of your marketing and promotion is vital to continue to build on that recognition.

Look at MacDonalds, they are well known for their use of Red and Yellow. If they started using Blue and Purple it would confuse consumers. Google have become known world wide as being associated with a mix of bright colours and it works well on the white background, which they use as standard.

If you haven’t got an existing colour scheme, think of colours which go well with your type of business. If you’re really stuck, I always find it quite helpful to go online and look at the various colour websites available. If you type in “Colour Palettes” into a Google search, you should find a site called Colour Lovers, which I find really helpful as it shows banners with groups and ranges of colours which work well together.

Whatever colour scheme you end up with, do try to stick to it throughout your site. Avoid the temptation to use lots of colours as they could end up fighting with each other and worse detracting from the information on your pages. If your website features a lot of images. I would always recommend a white background as this won’t clash with the colours within the images. You want your images to stand out and take centre stage and a white backdrop will allow them to do this.

To feature your colour scheme within the header and background design of your website, you need to commission a bespoke header from DotGO’s Professional Flash Designer. You can provide a selection of images, your company logo, a slogan, your colour scheme and design preferences and the designer will create a header, which will not only add that extra touch of class and professionalism but will also work to make you sure you stand out from your competition.

To do this, got to Step 2 (Style) and choose Website Design > Custom Design.
Here you can choose to have just the header created or go for a complete website makeover, where your colour scheme will be used in the header, side borders, menu bar and footer.

To include your colour scheme within your pages, add your colours to the text of any headings on your pages by using the “Text Colour” icon in your editor icon bar. Avoid setting different colours within the, main body of your text and this could become difficult to read. Choose Black or Grey or a Single Colour for your body text.

Add colour by Highlighting the selected text, then click the Text Colour icon and choose from either a simple colour grid or for an endless choice of colours, click More Colours to pick from a whole colour palette.

Less is more when it comes to colouring your website so try to show some restraint and you should end up with a really professional looking website, which works well with your other marketing literature.

These days, websites without background videos run the risk of appearing old-fashioned. Even dinosaurish,

There’s nothing wrong with dinosaurs, or with looking like one. Dinosaurs are cool. Unless they’re chasing you of course.

But our new background videos have landed, exploded and changed the game. They have wiped out the old standards for beautiful websites, and have replaced them with a new standard that will leave all other websites looking like fossils.

Bold, Italics, Capitals – When To Call On Your Superheroes

A superhero is only super because he or she stands out amongst the crowd. If we were a planet of flying, teleporting, time-freezing super-strong aliens, then we wouldn’t think there was anything super about us. When it comes to using formatting methods such as bold, italics, capitals or centering, all of these little text-enhancing superheroes will only stand out if they are used sparingly, in the right place, and when absolutely necessary…
