Horrible menus

If you sell a lot of products on your e-commerce site it’s important that you don’t overload your menu. If you have 100 products, and 100 listings on your menu then this will divide all your link juice between those separate pages.

Identify your most important products and/or categories and make sure they are on the navigation in a clear way. You can also look at popular websites in a similar niche and look at how they structure their menu for customers. Do they have menus that offer a great customer experience? Incorporate what you see into your website.

No featured snippets

Featured snippets are what Google returns when someone asks a question. Getting an answer in featured snippets is a great way to increase traffic to your site. Just because a question already has an answer, doesn’t mean you can’t create a better one.

Examine all the queries that are relevant to you and which you list in. Look at the top answers and create keyword richer answers which are more informative and better structured. If it’s good enough may see your answer achieve a top 3 ranking.

No schema

Structured data or schema is information that enables Google to organise and catalogue your website more efficiently. Schema is beneficial because it helps search engines find and display your content. According to some studies, you can increase your click through rate by as much as 30%.

It may look a bit daunting adding schema to all of your product listing pages. If you need a bit of help, here’s a great guide on how to add schema to your pages, and you won’t need any coding skills. It may take a bit of time but you will give your products more visibility.

Poor product titles

Be aware that what you write on your product page will not transfer seamlessly to search results. If you have a long product title, a significant portion of it will be chopped off. This can make some product titles meaningless and unintelligible.

Examine all of your product titles on your pages and make them cleaner and simpler. Removing irrelevant words will increase your click through rates. Increase click through rates means more traffic which equals more money in your pocket.

No Google My Business products

If you have a GMB listing it’s important that you provide as much information as possible and update it regularly. GMB allows you to list and promote your products. Doing this requires no technical skills and is some low hanging fruit which you should take advantage of.
